HAZRAT SA’AD
IBN WAQQAS
(radi Allahu anhu)
Name: His name was Maalik bin Wuhaib.
Titles: His was known as Abu Ishaaq.
About Him: He is also related in family to the Prophet (sallal laahu
alaihi wasallam). Once he presented himself in the Court of the Prophet (sallal
laahu alaihi wasallam) and the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said,
“This is my maternal Uncle. Has anyone seen such an uncle?” He is either the
fifth or seventh person to accept Islam. He was wither fourteen or seventeen
years of age when he accepted Islam. He is from amongst the Ashara Mubasharah
(Those twelve personalities to whom the Prophet sallal laahu alaihi wasallam
gave glad tidings of Jannat whilst they were on earth). He is also from amongt
the first persons to make Hijrat (migrate). He migrated before the Prophet (sallal
laahu alaihi wasallam). He was present in all the Battles. He was one of the
fourteen companions of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) who stood as
a shield in front of the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in the Battle
of Uhud. He was a brilliant archer. During the Battle of Uhud, the Prophet (sallal
laahu alaihi wasallam) passed arrows to him and said, “O Sa’ad! Continue firing
arrows. May my parents be sacrificed for you.” This statement of love which
the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) mentioned to him was a unique
statement that Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) only mentioned to
him, Hazrat Talha and Hazrat Zubair ridwaanullahi ta aala alaihim ajmaeen. He
is the first person to fire an arrow for Islam and he was the first person to
kill an enemy of Islam.
Wisaal: He passed away either in the year 55 or 57 Hijri at the
age of more than seventy.
